Reality Check

 Hello all well here's the story for the week first the good news I got to spend time with my mother. Since the last time I saw her was last year. I was determined to spend time with her for her birthday which I did. I realize that life is too short, and time is fleeting. So, I try and use my time wisely by seeing the people I care about as often as possible.

Now a Reality check money wise. I was on a spending spree. Well short of when it came to buying food and other things that I needed I was not looking at the prices like I should have but then BOOM!! Two things came in one my property taxes which are about $9,000 for one house and $5,000 for another one that we have and the bill for the new car I just purchased which will be $470 a month. Talk about bills hitting you all at one. Now I am pay attention to my money. Because homelessness is not an option for me.

You would think that I have a couple dollars since I did not go on vacation for 3 years. Oh well I am pay attention, and you should to.

Used Car Are How Much??

  Hello all well here's the story for the week. I got a new used car if you want to call it that. For Memorial Day weekend I went looking for a car because my old car a 1984 ford escort was starting to show her age. She was costing to much in repairs. Her gas milage was good and milage on the car was about 35. I would have kept her but she was getting to old and showing it.  She had dents and bruises in a lot of places.  So I ended up with a 2020 Hyundai Elantra which looks like a big car but drives like a small one. I love her but the price not so much. After all the bells and some of the whistles she cost me $27,000. Which is way to much for a used car with 13 thousand miles on it. But get this I wanted to pay cash but the dealer said with the incentives of $2500 off the car I had to get a loan. I hate loans of any kind. So I ended up with a loan but the good part is that  they took my old car and gave me $500 for it. Which was better then me trying to sell it on my own. The car loan payment will be about $470 a month which now I have to find a way to make that money. Did I mention I hate loans.

Other then that the week has been buzy running arounds doing a community yard sales so that I can make money toward my car loan of course. Which you know I did not make. I was lucky if I made $20 bucks but to me every penny counts.

What Privilege?

Hello all well here's the story for the week. I got my American Express bill yesterday and I owe $160 this is the fee for having the card. I called up and told them that I wanted to use my points toward the bill. I also asked them what some of the fees on the other cards are the customer service rep told me that theirs a $250, 375 and 650 card fees with certain cards. So, I ask you what you are getting with American Express to pay such high fees just for the privilege of using the card. Which is crazy. 

Since I don't use the card hardly, I am looking into their no fee card. After I use up all the points that I have with them. To me having an American Express card is not worth the $160 a year in fess that I have to pay because I don't really use it and I am a cheapskate.

Trying to hire a good real estate agent is frustrating. I interviewed a real estate agent yesterday. I am thinking about selling my rental home. Don't want to carry the bills on it for 2023. Anyway, this real estate agent came in and looked at the house. Then she started talking crazy about what I needed to do to sell it. I was ok with that then the crazy part comes. She gets a call from her vet and after the call she starts talking about her cat and the problems that the cat has going to the bathroom. Really miss your here to tell me about  my house not your cat and it's problems. It's get crazier from there. Needless to say I will not be using her. Not the right fit.

Spending More to Save

 

Hello All well here's the story for the week I spent more to save money. Let me explain I have Verizon FiOS which covers my internet and landline. Yes, I still have a landline. Call me old fashion. Anywho when I first got the internet telephone package, I was paying $89 that was about 5 years ago. When I looked at my Verizon bill today, I am now paying $139 for the internet/telephone package. What happen to my $89 dollar deal. So I called and they told me that since it's been a while that a someone would have to come check my lines and it would be $222. Then I can go back on the $89.00 plan. By me being on the $89 dollar plan it saves me $50 bucks a month.

But if you think about it, I am paying $200 to save $600 for the year which is actually a saving to me of $300. So I paid the upfront money of $222 to save $300 was I wrong? 

                                                                    

Went car shopping again and what do you know they had a nice Toyota corolla a used one with  25,000. miles in black. It drives nice I wanted it the price $25,000. and they would not trade in my old car for  the used one. They told me to sell it myself.  At first  the salesperson was  nice and friendly. Then the sales person turned nasty when I did not want to buy a car at that moment. I told him I would think about it. That's when the ugliness in him came out. Talking about I wasted his time. That's your job to sell cars right. Not  all people who come through the door will buy. Don't like your job get a new one.

Keeping On Top

 Hello all well here's the story for the week. Where did my money go?  I have a few stocks that I have purchased a couple of years ago. I always keep track of this money when the statements come out. I saw in one statement that I did not have any money in one of the stocks that I owned. It showed a zero balance. Funny because last year I had a balance that was not zero. So I called the company to find out where the heck my money went. I need every penny I can get right now. With  my bill being higher then  last year every  penny counts.

Thank goodness I solved that where's my money problem. Now on to can I sell my house problem. I went on  one of my facebook groups to ask about good real estate agents and I got a ton of replies . I guess the real estate business is  very competitive because a lot of real estate agents reached out to me about my house. I have a few names that I will be calling soon. It's cost me about $10,000 a year for a house that just sits empty. It's not benefiting me anymore time to sell.

Really??

  Hello all well here's the story for the week. The word today is Saving! Yes I am looking over my bills and seeing who I can call to cut back our cut out their services. I really am starting to realize living in New York is expensive. I am seen so many video's where people are  getting evicted and becoming homeless because they do not have the money to pay rent. So that scares me a lot . I think if I lost my partner's income I am screwed. With my pension and social security I will just be getting by I think If I cut back on my bills. So  I looked over our Verizon  bill today we are paying $135 a month for landline and internet service. To much so I called and they have a cheaper plan for $89. I still get everything  but at $50 dollars less. There is a catch the telephone tech has to come in a check the phone lines and it will cost a one time payment of $222. Which is crazy. I know These companies get you coming and going.   

I was taking things for granted not anymore I am getting older and I need to start waking the F-Up and pay attention to my money.

We are down to one car now my old Besty is on it's last leg and I can not drive her but so far. So the car that I am using now  the lights keeps going out on the dash board making it impossible at time to see what gear I am in. It will be going to the mechanic today but I need a car. I can not let the only car we have for now break down.

Fear

  Hello all well here's the story for the week Fear!! Have you gotten to a certain age Like me and thought that your money will not last. Well I am at that point right now. I have done a budget and I see I have more bills then I do money if I was to lose my partners income. Right now I am trying to cut back and think of ways that I can reduce my bills and increase my income. But really a person of my age who has been working for 40 years It's hard to go back to work now since I have been home retired for 7 years.

My Van situation I told you about  it. I gave  my van to fix to my mechanic  3 weeks ago. Every time I drive by the gas station it's sitting in the same place it has been for the last 3 weeks. I am not worried I am dumping it as soon as I get a chance. That will be money I save on insuring something I have not used in years.

     So far May has been quite which is a good thing for me. Happy Mothers Day.
